Rafael Martínez Palou received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional at Mexico, D.F. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo, in 2002, where he currently works as a scientific researcher on the synthesis and evaluation of organic compounds with potential applications in the petroleum industry. Almost one-half of his publications since 2003 have been written on microwave chemistries. Dr. Martínez Palou is member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores of Mexico.
