Microwave Enhanced Organic Synthesis
Dr. Stephen Caddick, Professor, Department of Chemistry, University College London, London, UK
Microwave technology has revolutionised organic synthesis and is now widely used in academia and industry. This talk will focus on new chemical reactions which have been enabled by utilising microwave acceleration. Examples include metathesis, sulfonamide chemistry and
palladium catalysed transformations. A key feature of the methodology is the ability to enhance chemical diversity through microwave enhanced chemistry. Additionally there will be a
description of the use of microwave technology to aid reaction discovery in areas such as free radical chemistry and asymmetric synthesis.
