Microwave technology provides an important tool to rapidly prepare many sample types for metals analysis, as well as organic extractions. Microwave digestion provides a higher temperature digest, and thus, prepares samples quicker and more thoroughly than hot blocks or similar devices. Samples can vary from laboratory to laboratory, but typically include the following:

MARS 6
Microwave Reaction System
For labs requiring high throughput capabilities, the MARSXpress allows the processing of up to 40 samples per batch. Similar products must be run together, but many types of foods and tissues can be mixed and matched as one batch. With its simple, but robust vessel design, MARSXpress is the easiest to use batch microwave system available.
Discover SP-DMicrowave Digestion System
For laboratories that receive many different sample types in any given day, Discover SP-D provides unmatched flexibility. SP-D offers individual temperature and pressure control, as well as method programming for each sample. The system is available with an optional autosampler which makes digesting samples incredibly easy. Just load the sample deck with any combination of samples and acids, choose your methods and press “Start.” If a rush sample comes in, you can even jump the queue to prepare the sample in minutes. Typical digestion times are 10 minutes or less per sample including cool down.

Phoenix
Microwave Furnace
Microwave ashing allows for faster turnaround of many sample types. The system’s ability to rapidly heat up means that it does not have to be on all the time, saving energy and helping keep laboratories cooler in the summer. The associated quartz crucible permits samples to be weighed within a minute of removing from the muffle furnace saving time and eliminating the need for dessication.
